FAQs

What is a physician advocate?

At Imria, a physician advocate is a board-certified doctor who helps you understand your health information, prepare for medical visits, and navigate complex decisions. They listen to your full story, help make sense of confusing or fragmented medical information, and support you in identifying what questions or decisions deserve attention, in the context of your life and circumstances.

Is Imria a replacement for my doctor?

No. Imria does not diagnose conditions, prescribe medications, order tests, or provide clinical care. Our physician advocates work alongside your existing clinicians, helping you prepare for visits, clarify information, and communicate more effectively so you can get the most out of your healthcare.

Does Imria provide medical second opinions?

Imria does not provide formal medical second opinions or independent diagnostic evaluations. However, we often help patients and caregivers think through whether seeking a second opinion may be appropriate, clarify what questions to ask, and review how different recommendations align with their goals and values. Our role is to support informed, confident decision-making alongside your existing care team.

What kinds of situations can Imria help with?

Imria is designed for moments when healthcare feels rushed, confusing, or fragmented—such as new or unexplained symptoms, unclear test results, complex or chronic conditions, transitions between specialists, hospitalizations, or times when you’re unsure what questions to ask or what matters most. Caregivers can also use Imria to support someone they love through difficult medical situations.

How do I get started with a physician advocate?

You begin by booking an Insight Session through our website. This is a 30-minute, physician-led conversation focused on understanding your health situation and clarifying what type of support—if any—would be most helpful next. If you and your physician advocate agree that continued Imria support is a good fit, you’ll receive follow-up options for a tailored support plan.

Do I need insurance to use Imria?

No. Imria operates independently of insurance, so the support you receive isn’t affected by your coverage or lack of it.

Do I have to pay to use Imria?

Yes. Imria’s services are paid – starting with the Insight Session, a 30-minute physician-led conversation for $95. If you continue with a tailored support plan afterward, that fee is applied toward the engagement. Any ongoing cost is discussed clearly and in advance, so you understand your options before deciding. If cost is a barrier, see the next question.

What if I can't afford Imria's services?

Cost should never be the reason someone goes without a physician advocate. Imria offers a sliding scale for those facing financial hardship. Reach out to access@imriahealth.com to discuss options.

How do I communicate with my physician advocate?

Communication begins during your Insight Session. If you continue with Imria support, you’ll get ongoing access to your physician advocate through a HIPAA-secure messaging platform, so you can send updates, questions, or documents anytime and seamlessly connect by phone, video, or text.

Is my information private?

Yes. Imria uses HIPAA-secure communication systems to protect your information. While we do not provide medical treatment, we apply healthcare-grade privacy and security standards throughout our services.
